Mountain Lion: Rare. On 12th July 2011, a male was heard calling in an area of mesquite next to the lake. It was briefly observed twice

Mule Deer: Rare. 6 were observed on 8 July 2011

Desert Cottontail: Resident throughout the year, but scarcer than the following species

 

Black-tailed Jackrabbit: A very common resident, easily observed in desert scrub

Ornate Tree Lizard: Sightings exist for the months of March thru August

 

Common Side-blotched Lizard: Sightings exist for March, May, August and September. Male is pictured on the left, female on right.

 

Southwestern Fence Lizard: Sightings exist for the months of April thru August, and October

 

Tiger Whiptail: Sightings exist for the months of April thru August

Western Banded Gecko: A juvenile was photographed on the 22 March and another was observed on 3 October 2011. An adult was photographed on 5 April 2012

Halloween Pennant:Sightings exist for the month of August. The first ever confirmed specimen for Hidalgo County (and western New Mexico) was photographed at the preserve on 25 August 2011. The same individual was also observed two days later

Striped Saddlebags: A sighting exists for the month of October. The first ever confirmed specimen for Hidalgo County was photographed at the preserve on 11 October 2011

Common Green Darner: Sightings exist for the months of March thru November. The first ever confirmed specimen for Hidalgo County was photographed at the preserve on 14 June 2011

 

Giant Darner: Sightings exist for the months of August and September. This is the first ever confirmed specimen for Hidalgo County.

 

Gray Sanddragon: Rare. A single sighting was the first ever confirmed specimen for Hidalgo County on 27 June 2011
