Wagtails and Pipits Motacillidae

and Sokoke Pipit Anthus sokokensis are endangered. Another 3 species are vulnerable
and 5 more are near-threatened. Members of this family are found on every continent, with the majority being restricted to
the Old World.

There are 11 members in this genus. The Mekong Wagtai Motacilla samveasnae is near-threatened. A number of races
may be soon recognized as full-species within this genus.
White Wagtails Motailla alba are an Old World species that barely extend their range into coastal western Alaska.
They are highly terrestrial, constantly wagging their tail up and down as they actively walk or run. This White Wagtail was feeding along the shore of
Rutland Water, near Oakham, England.
