Trogons and Quetzals Trogonidae
There are 7 genera within this family. Of the forty species of Trogons and Quetzals, one is listed as endangered; the Javan Trogon
Apalharpactes reinwardtii. This species is sometimes lumped with the Sumatran Trogon Apalharpactes mackloto.
Another ten species are considered near-threatened. Twenty four species, including six species of Quetzals are found in
the Americas, three species are found in Africa, and the other thirteen are found in Asia.
