Motmots Momotidae

The 9 species of Motmots are split into 6 genera. They are distributed from southern Mexico south to South America. Most of the species have long tails with distinct racquets at the end of the central rectrices. They typically perch silently on branches swinging their tails side-to-side; rather like a pendulum. The Keel-billed Motmot Electron carinatum is vulnerable.
