Monarch Flycatchers Monarchidae

These small to medium-sized passerines are found in Africa, southern Asia, Australasia and Oceania. The 97 species are divided into 17 genera, of which 1 is thus far described below. 5 species are considered critically endangered. Another 7 are endangered. In addition, 7 species are listed as vulnerable and 14 are near-threatened.



Chasiempis


This endangered species is the only member of the genus.

The Elepaio Chasiempis sandwichensis is endemic to three of the Hawaiian Islands-Hawaii, Kauai, and Oahu. The several races vary so considerably that they were once regarded as seperate species. This Elepaio was photographed at the Kalalau Lookout, Kokee State Park, Kauai, Hawaiian Islands.
