Jacamars Galbulidae

Of the 18 species within the family, the Three-toed Jacamar Jacamaralcyon tridactyla and the Coppery-chested Jacamar Galbula
pastazae are listed as vulnerable. Jacamars are restricted to the New World, with the majority of species only being
found in South America. They are similar in size and shape to the Old World bee-eaters Meropidae.

Rufous-tailed Jacamars Galbula ruficauda are the most widespread member of the family. They can be found in a wide variety of habitats
from southern Mexico, south to southern Brazil. This female (the males have a white throat), was photographed at Speyside, Tobago.
