Hawaiian Honeycreepers Drepanididae
There are 12 genera within this family of which 1 is thus far listed below. No other family of birds has suffered in modern times as much
as the Hawaiian Honeycreepers in terms of extinction. Only 2 of the remaining 21 species have stable populations, with another 15 species having become
extinct in recent times. Note that some authors usually place Drepanididae as a subfamily of the finch family Fringillidae.
Himatione

This is the only member of the genus.
The Apapane Himatione sanguinea can be found on all of the main Hawaiian Islands, except Lana'i. It is the most abundant and most reliably
seen of all the endemic forest birds in Hawaii. This adult was photographed at the Kalalau Lookout, Kokee State Park, Kauai, Hawaiian Islands.
