Frigatebirds Fregatidae

The family consists of a single genus. The Christmas Frigatebird Fregata andrewsi is listed as critically endangered and the Ascension Frigatebird Fregata aquila is vulnerable. Members of this family are spread across the tropical and subtropical seas and oceans.

Magnificent Frigatebirds Fregata magnificens are found along the tropical eastern Pacific and western Atlantic coasts of America. A small isolated population also breeds on the Cape Verde Islands, off west Africa. This species is the largest member of the family. This female was photographed on Little Tobago Island, Tobago.
