islands in the Southern Hemisphere. The Antarctic Shag Phalacrocorax (a.) bransfieldensis, South Georgia Shag Phalacrocorax (a.) georgianus,
Heard Island Shag Phalacrocorax (a.) nivalis, Crozet Shag Phalacrocorax (a.) melanogenis, Macquarie Shag Phalacrocorax
(a.) purpurascens and Kerguelen Shag Phalacrocorax (a.) verrucosus were all recently lumped with the Imperial Shag. These birds of the
nominate race were photographed at Ajax Bay, near San Carlos, Falkland Islands, March 1985.
